Snowshoe Mountain Resort
Snowshoe Mountain is one of the Mid Atlantic region's most popular ski and all-year resort. Surrounded by National Park forest, the beautiful alpine village is located high on the summit at 4,848 foot elevation and receives an average of 180 inches of snowfall each year. In winter, the resort features 60 downhill ski slopes and trails, 1600 feet vertical drop, the highest in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, with the longest run extending 1.5 miles, a snow tubing hill, a terrain park with half-pipe, night skiing, dedicated snowmaking. The resort is set on 244 unspoiled acres of land. Snowshoe village has five large hotels and condominiums, the newest being The Secena, many shops, restaurants, and clubs.
In summer, there is even more fun at Snowshoe Mountain. Because of its 4848 feet elevation the resort enjoys pleasant cool temperatures. With a mean temperature of 68° in July, Snowshoe Mountain is the perfect place in summer. You can enjoy miles of hiking, nature walking and mountain biking across the resort's eleven thousand (11,000) beautiful acres. A ski lift takes you down to the Shaver Lake for sun bathing on a sandy beach, fishing, paddle boating and other summer activities. The nearby Raven Golf Club provides world class play with breathtaking vistas from every hole. On weekends, there are organized fun events in the village plaza, good times, live music on the village stage, competitions, concerts, food and drink tastings, movie nights on the square, Fourth of July fireworks, arts and craft activities for children, exibitions, and much more. Also, enjoy other summer activities right at the resort, such as segway and buggy off-road tours, sporting clays, or visit the Split Rock water park. And don't forget that the surrounding Pocahontas County is nature's own playground, with its rushing rivers, walking trails, out-of-this-world vistas, the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park with its historic steam engine train rides up to Bald Mountain, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory offering fascinating tours, all within a few minutes' drive from the luxury accommodations at Snowshoe.
